INTRODUCTION

The website with URL address www.zelliand.com is owned and operated by Zelliand. Zelliand is a database that collects, stores, processes, and makes available information about funding rounds conducted by startups. The information consists of the trade name of the startup, website address, headquarters location, and selected names of the founders or executives. Secondly, it also consists of date, type and amount of the funding round, and selected names of the investors participating (companies, public entities or individuals).

The processing consists of a neutral profiling of the funding round and participants according to some categories (like type of business activity, type of investor, stage and maturity of the round, etc.). The personal data collected, stored and/or processed corresponds to one or more of the following cases:

  • Name of the investor participating in the round and name of the startup founder or executive
  • URL address of the public website or public profile available on LinkedIn of the person
  • Functional cookies with information about the timing and pages visited by any user of the database (see “Cookies” below)
  • Information contained in the contract, when users subscribe to one or more services from Zelliand (payment details are never stored by Zelliand)



Zelliand’s mission is to promote open innovation and to ease the funding process of startups. Information stored is strictly limited to that mission, following the principle of public and legimitate interest. More information is available in the Terms and Conditions label of this website.

DATA COLLECTION AND STORAGE

Zelliand obtains personal data through the following channels:

  • Public media sources, news and press releases
  • Direct communication from the individuals or their organizations
  • Standard navigation information, under the form of cookies, automatically recognized and stored by Zelliand’s server

Zelliand will inform individuals, when reasonably possible, about the inclusion in the database of their names or other data as listed above.

Zelliand stores the data collected and processed in its own servers, located in Madrid, Spain. Zelliand’s third party software providers comply with similar or superior privacy standards as described on this policy, and use servers located in the EU and the US. In relation to the storage of personal data, Zelliand respects, above all, the principles of security (risk analysis aimed at determining the technical and organizational measures necessary to ensure the integrity, availability and confidentiality of the personal data processed) and data minimization (ensuring that only data that are necessary for each of the specific purposes of the processing are processed, reducing the extent of processing, limiting the storage period and its accessibility to what is necessary). Zelliand has implemented technical and organizational data protection measures, following the adaptation to the EU GDPR, and conducts Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).


 
DATA DISSEMINATION AND THIRD PARTIES

Subsets of the content of the database are available to the public through customizable view options, under a free, open access version and/or a pay per view access to the Zelliand webpage. Users are informed of the scope, purpose and limitations in the use of the data accessed, in particular any related reproduction or sharing with third parties of the data.
Zelliand may occasionally sign White Label Affiliation Services Agreements (WASA) with third parties (companies or institutions). These services consist of dynamic copies of some of the database views, customized with the needs of the third party. As an example, Zelliand may sign a WASA with a Local Innovation Agency. In such an agreement, a customized partition and view of the Zelliand database will be available in the Local Innovation Agency website, for the benefit of their audience, and branded under their name, logos and design features. The WASA will include the same levels of data protection as described on this protocol and the data storage and servers remain unaltered.


 
COOKIES

Zelliand automatically collects information about user tastes and preferences to analyse user navigation. A cookie is a piece of information stored on the user computer’s hard drive by their web browser. On revisiting the database, Zelliand’s server recognises the cookie, providing information about the last visit. Cookies do not contain personal information and Zelliand does not use cookies for personal identification. Zelliand may use cookies only for managing functional aspects of the database. Users may alter the settings of the browser to prevent the automatic acceptance of cookies.
